What would I tell our founding fathers?

Author's Note: This piece was written for the Patriot's Pen essay competition, which the prompt was what would I say to our founding fathers.

What would I tell our Founding Fathers?  I’d ask them why they didn’t give up. It’s purely amazing how nobody gave up. During and after the war things looked hopeless. Sure we might’ve had the beginners luck, but where would we go? That is a time where I think I might’ve given up.
During the Revolutionary war it looked like we didn’t stand a chance. The British had some of the best naval ships in the world, not to mention an intimidating crew. If I looked out over the horizon and saw a massive vessel with cannons protruding out of its sides, I’d probably run in terror. Our founding fathers didn’t back down.  We weren’t completely helpless, although it seemed that way. The British had to cross the Atlantic where  many of their ships were sunk or robbed by murderous pirate crews.  That may be a reason, with the Founding Fathers knowing that they had some help, over in the Atlantic.
Soldiers were another problem they had. Unfortunately for them only one third of the colonists were patriots. The two other thirds were either people who didn’t care or people who would stay true to the redcoats. The British soldiers were well trained and well equipped while the colonists weren’t trained and didn’t know how to perform in battle. The only way we won was because we had a great leader, who, didn’t give up. Most people in his position would, and I would love to have a helping hand in encouraging George Washington in not giving up.
Finally, the constitution. That took awhile to make and while it didn’t turn out perfect, it was still a hassle to write. For starters, everybody was fighting and they couldn’t seem to agree on anything. Some people might’ve been able to hear the yelling when they walked outside of the building where it was taking place. Both sides couldn’t agree on anything, that’s why I think it a miracle that nobody gave up.
So, what would I say to our founding fathers? Never give up, no matter how improbable or impossible the problem seems. There wouldn’t be an America if they had given up. Just think, our great country wouldn’t exist if our founding fathers had given up.
